Crufts 2001

St. Edwards win the Team Agility competition at Crufts 2001.

The team consisted of: Kathryn Davoll  Broadlawns Taffy

   Sue Montgomerie  Touchango Macho

   Michael Crisp  Touchango Beau

   Terry Felstead  Touchango Ari Up

This team qualified for Crufts by winning the qualifier held at the Agility Club Show in 2000 with four stunning clear rounds. They then won the Semi-Finals at Crufts on the Sunday to qualify for the Final on the Monday.

Unfortunately St. Edwards were drawn to run first out of the four teams who had qualified for the final. This means that Kathryn Davoll with 'Taffy' had the unenviable task of being the first person to tackle the course. However, she managed to stay cool, calm and collected and achieved a CLEAR ROUND. The first members of the other 3 teams then completed their rounds.

Sue with 'Kevin' was the 2^nd person to run for St. Edwards and she also managed a CLEAR ROUND. This resulted in St. Edwards lying in 1^st position. The girls had 'done their stuff' it was up to the boys now!

Michael with 'Beau' was the 3^rd member of the team to run. He unfortunately collected 5 FAULTS when Beau failed to apply his brakes on the top of the table! However, St. Eds were still in 1^st place.

It was all now down to the 'old man' of the team – Terry Felstead and 'Ari'. He is an extremely experienced competitor who is used to coping with pressure, but we have it on good authority that he definitely went pale when he realised it was all down to him. St. Eds could afford 5 faults and still win the class. Somebody must have told Ari this because he knocked a jump down and picked up 5 FAULTS, but it didn't matter because we had WON!!!

It has been a long time since St. Edwards last qualified for the Team Competition at Crufts, and they 'did us proud' by bringing back the shield. Well done Kate, Sue, Michael & Terry, and dogs, of course. Now, about next year……………….

Club Competition

The St. Edwards Agility club competition was held on Monday 6^th August at Chelsfield Riding Stables.

Simon Chandler, an experienced Agility Judge, judged the competition. Luckily he has got a good sense of humour, as the competitions tend to be quite boisterous with plenty of spectator involvement (a polite way of saying 'verbal abuse'!)

Four classes were held to accommodate all the competing standards within the club. The winners of the classes were:

 Senior Agility   Sue Montgomerie & Kevin

 Starters Jumping   Alison Shaw & Toby

 Intermediate Jumping  Michael Crisp & Beau

Pedigree Chum Semi-Finals

Three Three members of St. Edwards have qualified for the Pedigree Chum Semi-Finals at the end of August. They are:
